Vince Young Adding to the List
With the latest coming from Vince this got me thinking about the top 3 quarterbacks that came from this draft and how they are causing problems for all of their teams.
First lets start with Vince Young. He had every chance to prove his worth with Tennessee. He had problems holding onto the football and struggled making certain passes but he did lead the Titans to a playoff berth. Then he had confidence issues and supposedly pulled himself out of a game to never go back in. But obviously he thinks that if he can’t beat out a 36 year old quarterback, some other teams would definitely want him. Maybe he learned that from his wonderlic?
Next up is Matt Leinart. Leinart was supposed to be the best out of the bunch but decided it was a better idea to party. He has had various chances to try and win the quarterback job, but now his confidence is completely shot because of it. Any time he made a mistake, he was pulled for Kurt Warner, who helped lead the Cardinals to the Super Bowl.
Last but certainly not least is Jay Cutler. Cutler seems to be on his way to the best career out of the bunch. But this offseason a lot of people lost respect for Cutler for what he did and how “cried” about being on the trading block. Now he is on a different team because of it. And his former team is probably going to struggle for years. (That is what you get when you trade a franchise quarterback)
Honestly, I don’t have a problem with what Vince Young did if he would have done it last year. The guy is a competitor and he actually was successful at the quarterback position for the Titans. But after he said he was “willing to take the backup role” just because his confidence was shot, that is when he lost the chance to demand a trade in my eyes. You can’t come back and say “oh, I guess I do want to play.” (Unless your Brett Favre)
I wish Matt Leinart would have done what Vince Young did this offseason. He should have demanded playing time or a trade. But instead Matt Leinart was too busy getting “crunk” for him to realize that the Cardinals just spent more money on a 38-something quarterback because they have more faith in him than the guy they drafted 10th overall.
These guys were supposed to be the new face of the franchise, not completely debacle them. They were supposed to help fix problems, not continue to cause more of the same.
I guess the moral of the story here is: If you aren’t happy and are an NFL quarterback you shouldn’t use your ability to throw the football and preparation skills, you should just call out the organization that drafted you, or in Matt Leinart’s case: do neither.
