NFL Power Rankings – Week 7

The new rankings have a new team at the top due to the thrashing the Saints gave the Giants. Now, I could have had the Saints jump the Colts, but until Peyton Manning comes back down to Earth, the Colts are a very formidable force. The Vikings, Falcons, and Patriots move up significantly due to big wins. Biggest teams that dropped were Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Baltimore, and SD.

  1. Indianapolis (5-0): Colts move up by default because of the Giants loss. But really, I couldn’t tell you who is better between New Orleans and the Peyton Mannings.

  2. New Orleans (5-0): Saints are a different kind of monster when playing in the Superdome. But, they needed the game and they dominated every facet. Its no coincidence that the two top teams here are led by the quarterbacks playing the best right now.

  3. New York Giants (5-1): Giants had a rude awakening when they traveled to New Orleans; they just need to get back to what they do best: play defense and control the clock with the run game. Lets hope Brandon Jacobs comes back to his old self sometime.

  4. Minnesota (6-0): Once again, last week was a good example on why the Vikings got Brett Favre. He can lead the offense down the field when they need it most. As long as he won’t have to do that every week, the Vikings should be hard to beat.

  5. Pittsburgh (4-2): Big Ben is at an amazing pace this year. I’m not sure if he can hold this up the whole year, but if he can, the Steelers are going to be perfectly fine. The defense is getting better every week and with Mendenhall starting now, the run game could be a factor.
  6. Denver (6-0): The Broncos remind me of the Dolphins of last year: they don’t turn the ball over, they play into their defense, and they take over the game at the end. They will be hard to beat if they continue to not make mistakes.
  7. Atlanta (4-1): Another impressive defensive performance and outside of their trip to Foxboro, the Falcons have looked very good.
  8. New England (4-2): Yes, everyone is on the Tom Brady is back train. Well I’m not quite there yet. Tennessee looked like they didn’t care nor did they look like they wanted to be there. The Patriots are still working on the offense, but its coming.
  9. Chicago (3-2): The Bears really need to take care of the ball more. Its pretty ironic that Orton is one of the best quarterbacks in the red zone and now the Bears have red zone issues. Funny how that works.
  10. Cincinnati (4-2): I’m not sure where or what to make of the Bengals. One week, they look an elite team in the NFL, and then the next week, they make stupid mistakes. They need to add some consistency in their gameplan, and maybe they will win by more than one score sometime.
  11. Baltimore (3-3)
  12. Dallas (3-2)
  13. Green Bay (3-2)
  14. Miami (2-3)
  15. San Francisco (3-2)
  16. Arizona (3-2)
  17. Philadelphia (3-2)
  18. NY Jets (3-3)
  19. Jacksonville (3-3)
  20. Houston (3-3)
  21. San Diego (2-3)
  22. Seattle (2-4)
  23. Carolina (2-3)
  24. Buffalo (2-4)
  25. Detroit (1-5)
  26. Kansas City (1-5)
  27. Washington (2-4)
  28. Oakland (2-4)
  29. Cleveland (1-5)
  30. Tampa Bay (0-6)
  31. Tennessee (0-6)
  32. St. Louis (0-6)
