Holder’s NBA Power Rankings: Nov 24

Welcome to Holder’s NBA’s Power Rankings.  Currently in beta testing, this article is open to opinions, comments, and ideas.

There is no formula for these power rankings.  Everything is taken into account when choosing a team, from their season record to how many celebrities the starting five have slept with.  In the end, what you are reading is my opinion, not a mathematical formula.

If you don’t like my opinion, feel free to let me know. If you’re too lazy to let me know, move along.

Awesome team of the week: Magic won all 4 games this week, beating the Celtics in the process.

Not-so-awesome team of the week: Multiple teams went winless, but the honor goes to the winless (total) Nets.

RANKING TEAM RECORD REASONING
Hawks 11-3 The Hawks are still playing incredibly great basketball.  Although they fell to the Hornets, they beat the Blazers and Heat this past week.
Magic 11-3 Van Gundy realizes he’s too much of a dick and suddenly his team starts playing very well.  Shocking!
Lakers 10-3 With Gasol back in rotation and Kobe hitting shots from behind the backboard, the Lakers are a scary team.
Suns 11-3 Steve Nash is playing phenomenal basketball and making sure the Suns remain amongst the West’s elite.  This Suns team is very reminiscent of the Suns of old.
Mavs 10-3 Although only beating the Spurs and Kings this week, the Mavs are still playing great basketball.  They’re missing Marion and Howard, although the latter may be for the better.
Nuggets 9-4 I reiterate that the Nuggets have a chemical that makes them more than human in Denver.  They killed the Raptors and Bulls, although they dropped the ball on the Clippers.  How do you lose to the Clippers?
Cavs 10-4 Cleveland has gotten stale, but are still a good team because of James.  They allowed three ridiculous comebacks this week, dropping their first game to the Wizards.  If they don’t start playing well, they’re out of the top 10.
Celtics 10-4 Ah, the Celtics.  There’s not much to say about this team as they never show what they’re made of until the playoffs start.
Bucks 8-4 Jennings for ROY?  How about Jennings for MVP?  This kid is phenomenal and is leading the Bucks.  Big test coming up on Saturday against the Magic.
Blazers 11-5 Losing in Atlanta is one thing, but losing to the Warriors?!?  This team is getting better, but they need to quit having hiccups.
Jazz 7-6 The Jazz finally seem to be in tune, winning their last 4 out of 5 and stopping a 20 year slide in San Antonio.  But in all fairness, they probably served dinner at 4pm that night, so the Spurs were sleepy come game time.
Rockets 8-6 This team has more ups and downs than a terrible rollercoaster pun.  They better hope McGrady doesn’t come back and mess up the team chemistry.
Heat 8-5 After starting on fire, the Heat have cooled off and have shown what they really are: a mediocre team with a superstar that gets less help than LeBron.
Thunder 7-7 The youth of this basketball team is shown on a weekly basis.  I’m still petitioning they sign a veteran to stabilize them.
Spurs 7-9 They got Parker back, but lost Ginobili to a groin injury.  It must have been someone kicking him in the balls because really, this team is better than this.
Hornets 6-9 In the world of logic, when your best player goes down, the team suffers.  In the Hornet’s logic, they suck with their best player but defeat really good teams without him.
Raptors 6-8 If they Raptors wish to make the playoffs, or a .500 record, they need to play defense.  Seriously, my 73 year old amputee grandma can guard someone better.
Bulls 6-7 Derrick Rose may finally be waking up, but it may not be enough for the Bulls.  What happened to the exciting team that drove the defending champions to 7 games last year?
Pacers 5-6 Beating good teams at home is what they do.  Losing to mediocre teams on the road is what they also do.  Getting back TJ Ford could really hurt or help them, depending on his mood.
Kings 5-8 The Kings need to trade Kevin Martin for a good post player.  Plenty of teams will bite.
Pistons 5-9 They lost all their games this week, but had very tough opponents.  Still, this team is going nowhere.
Grizzlies 5-9 The Grizzlies have the ability to become a splinter in the West.  They have a good backcourt and a decent frontcourt, but can’t seem to put 2 and 2 together (the obvious answer being 16).
Warriors 4-8 Beating the Blazers was impressive, but the Warriors need a coaching change.  Donny is chasing records while his talented team rots.
Knicks 3-10 It looks like the Knicks may have finally woken up.  They won 2 games and gave the C’s a run for their money, but it’s hard to believe that this team will win more than 30 games this season.
Clippers 6-7 How did they manage to beat the Nuggets at home?  Seriously, I have no idea.
76ers 5-8 Philadelphia is playing ugly basketball.  Elton Brand had a good night this week, but don’t think he’ll keep it up.  These 76ers are playing as if they don’t want any part of the playoffs.
Bobcats 4-9 At least they’re scoring more with Captain Jackson in command.
Wizards 3-9 Jamison came back and they beat the Cavs, horray!  Wait, he’s not taking care of all their problems?  I was lied to!
Timberwolves 1-13 This team should be tied with the Nets for the worst record in the NBA.  I’m pinning them at under 11 wins this season.
Nets 0-13 If you have yet to win a game, you’re going at the bottom of the power rankings.  There’s nothing else to say about this team.
