Week 12 Top 25

Week 11 was a good week to separate what teams are going to the BCS and what teams aren’t. Here are Ryan’s rankings for Week 12.

1. Florida: Unless something drastic happens, it will be Alabama or Florida in the BCS championship game. Both deserve it. Remaining: Florida International, @ Florida State, Alabama (SEC Champ Game).

2. Alabama: I don’t know which defense is tougher: Florida’s or Alabama’s; but if you are making me choose, I’m taking the Crimson Tide’s. Remaining: Chattanooga, @ Auburn, Florida (SEC Champ Game).

3. TCU: Let the hating of my rankings begin. I’ll take the “other” team from Texas before the Longhorns. They have beat better teams and have done so on the road too. And they’ve been impressive.  Remaining: @Wyoming, New Mexico.

4. Boise: I put the Broncos ahead of the Longhorns because I believe if they played, Boise would win. Throw out their schedule. This team should be in talks for the national title. Remaining: @Utah St, v. Nevada, v. New Mexico State.

5. Texas: I believe this to be the most overrated team in the country. Even though they keep winning, I’m almost positive they will get blown out by Florida/Alabama. Remaining: Kansas, @ Texas A&M, Big 12 Champ Game.

6. Cincinnati: Cincinnati will jump up very high if they beat Pittsburgh. It is amazing to me on how they have had a QB by committee and been successful. Remaining: Illinois, @ Pittsburgh.

7. Georgia Tech: Outside of their blunder against Miami, this team has been very, very good. Paul Johnson is showing that the triple option can be ran anywhere and barring an upset in the ACC championship game, the Yellow Jackets will be a tough matchup. Remaining: Georgia, ACC Championship Game

8. Pittsburgh: If only the Panthers would have beaten NC State. That would have set up a bigger game against Cincinnati when the time comes. The Big East is trying to get 2 bids in the BCS for the first time ever; if Pitt beats Cincy, that will happen. Remaining: @West Virginia, Cincinnati

9. LSU: Out of all the teams here, LSU gets screwed the most. They have only lost to the 2 teams ranked #1 and #2 respectively in the nation, and yet have no shot whatsoever of making it into the BCS. Remaining: @ Ole Miss, Arkansas

These guys gotta be upset that LSU has no shot at a BCS berth.

These guys gotta be upset that LSU has no shot at a BCS berth.

10. Ohio State: What a down year for the Big Ten. I live in Big Ten country and firmly believe that they should not get a BCS bid this year; that is how bad it has been. Ohio State is there just because they have to be. Remaining: @ Michigan

11. Oklahoma State: Without Dez Bryant, I thought this team was done for. They have surpassed my expectations and quarterback Zach Robinson has done an admirable job as his weapons keep getting taken away from him. This team can still make some noise in the BCS picture. Remaining: Colorado, Oklahoma.

12. Oregon: The Ducks took a huge hit when they lost to Stanford, but they still control their own destiny. If Oregon can win out, they will play Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Remaining: @ Arizona, Oregon State

13. Iowa: Another team that still has life for the BCS if their cards play it right. The Hawkeyes have taken a hard fall back to Earth after their impressive 9-0 start. If they can win and get some help, BCS may not be far off. Remaining: Minnesota

14. Penn State: The Nittany Lions probably aren’t going to the BCS this year, but they lost two tough games and should benefit next year to a harder OOC schedule than usual. Remaining: @ Michigan State

15. Wisconsin: These guys have quietly been under the radar all year and like Penn State, their only losses are to Iowa and Ohio State. Remaining: @Northwestern, @Hawaii

16. Virginia Tech: Wow, how the mighty have fallen. The Hokies were supposed to be national title contenders this year but as their offense was inefficient and their defense was on the field for too long, it took a toll. Remaining: NC State, @ Virginia

17. Stanford: The Cardinal have impressed everyone, myself included. They have their first shot at a Rose Bowl appearance since the loss to Wisconsin in 2000. They need some help, but it is possible. Remaining: California, Notre Dame

18. Miami (FL): The Canes season looked so promising when they got out to that 5-1 start. They looked like they were back. But as the season progressed, they played like they are, very young and inexperienced. This season will do wonders for them in the following years and they will be very good for a long time. Remaining: @Duke, S.Florida

19. Utah: I think TCU just scored again. Utah was completely out-matched in their last game and it showed. The Utes were still impressive considering all of the losses they had. Remaining: San Diego State, BYU

20. Oregon State: This is what happens when USC isn’t dominant. There a 3 legitimate chances at a Rose Bowl bid. We’ve mentioned 2 of them and here is the third. Oregon State can win out (easier said than done), and they will be going to the Rose Bowl. Oh, it’s going to be fun to watch. Remaining: @ Washington State, @ Oregon

Can Rodgers help Oregon State get to the Rose Bowl?

21.USC: I kind of expected USC to falter this year. Not even Carroll could replenish that much talent on both sides of the ball and still be successful. Now we all know truly why he called out Mark Sanchez – it would have been a much better year for USC football with him there. Remaining: UCLA, Arizona

22. BYU: The Cougars started with so much promise only to disappoint as the season progressed. They are still a very dangerous team. Remaining: Air Force, Utah

23. North Carolina: I stated at the beginning of this year that if UNC could score some points, this defense would carry them. Well, they have been very inconsistent and their record shows. Remaining: @Boston College, North Carolina State

24. Houston: Houston was so close to staying in the BCS talk. Then it was gone. The Cougars could do this again next year as long as all everything quarterback Case Kennum comes back. I’m betting he does. Remaining: Memphis, Rice

25. Clemson: To end the list, Clemson has its shot to get to a BCS Bowl. All they have to do is win, win, and win again. The Tigers have done well in big games (loss by 3 to GT, loss by 4 to TCU, win v. Miami), and if they can get to the ACC champ game, I look for them to seek revenge. Remaining: Virginia, @ South Carolina
