NFL Mock Draft 6/01

My 2010 Mock Draft as of 6/1:

1. Detroit Lions: Russel Okung, OT, Oklahoma State:

Back to back #1 picks means either Stafford didn’t play, or he struggled. Either way its very predictable because the Lions didn’t address their offensive line in the offseason.

2. Kansas City Chiefs: Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois:

Chiefs drafting this high again? Maybe Scott Pioli isn’t the godsend everyone makes him out to be? Adding Arrelious Benn to the situation makes the Chiefs a potent offense and if they can somehow establish a running game behind that offensive line, could be pretty explosive offensively.

3. Cleveland Browns: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee:

I’m not exactly sure the direction the Browns would go here but I’d probably focus on defense as Eric Berry is an elite talent in this draft. He would make an immediate impact even though drafting a safety isn’t part of the normal of a top 5 pick.

4. Oakland Raiders: Taylor Mays, FS, USC:

Mays is an elite talent also at the safety position and would fill a need. If the Raiders are picking at the point, it could be a variety of things, but Taylor Mays will do wonders at the combine. That is one of the things that Al Davis does look at.

5. Seattle Seahawks (via Denver): Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma:

This would be perfect for the Seahawks. They could sit Bradford for a year behind Hasselbeck and then let him take over the reins. If they could get some young, talented receivers for him to throw the ball to, the Seahawks could be very good. Who would of thought the Broncos could have debacled their draft more?

6.Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma:

McCoy would be the perfect fit for this defense as it needs run stoppers. This Buccaneers team, if Josh Freeman pans out as their franchise quarterback, would be very good for years. Things I love to see in the NFL.

7. St. Louis Rams: Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida:

This would be a toss up on who they would pick between a defensive lineman, or Jevan Snead. I think the Rams’ organization would probably go the conservative route and take Dunlap, who could be a difference maker on that Rams’ defense. I think I’d rather him and play him right away than sit and wait on Snead.

8. Buffalo Bills: Brian Bulaga, T, Iowa:

The Bills season could predictably go down the tubes because of their failure to address the LT position. If they are drafting this high and Bulaga declares, he will get taken here. He is an elite talent at the OT position. Otherwise if Bulaga doesn’t declare the Bills have two options: Draft Jevan Snead or another lineman somewhere. I think they’ll take the safe approach.

9. San Fransisco 49ers:Reshed Jones, S, Georgia:

This was a toss up between a CB or a S and I was solid on Jones’ versatility to play either safety position. I think Singletary would love to have him for his tackling and play making ability.

10. Washington Redskins: Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma:

Williams had a great year last year and if the Redskins are picking this high it is probably because of their offensive line. Redskins are very inconsistent offensively and it is mainly because of their quarterback play and their offensive line. Williams is a great fit for them.

11. Tennessee Titans: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska:

Distinguishing between Suh and McCoy is very hard. They are both great talents at DT and eat up blockers.Tennessee got rid of Albert Haynesworth because of his pricetag and the Titans didn’t want to pay it. Well they get their younger version of Haynesworth and become a dominant defense again.

12. NY Jets: Damian Williams, WR, USC:

The Jets will be looking for a WR early in the draft if they are drafting this high because obviously that was the reason they didn’t do well. Damian Williams would be a good addition to the offense and give Mark Sanchez another weapon to work with.

13. Miami Dolphins: Terrance Cody, NT, Oklahoma:

Taking Terrance Cody makes too much sense for the Dolphins. After failing to make the playoffs and getting this draft pick, the Dolphins will probably start the Chad Henne era. Terrance Cody makes the defense a little more potent while making Henne’s life a little easier.

14. Green Bay Packers: Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky

Lindley would be a great fit for the Packers because of his pressure man to man defense. Him and Tramon Williams together would put some youth into the Packers’ secondary so when Charles Woodson and/or Al Harris leave, they will be prepared.

15. Cincinnati Bengals: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson

Bengals obviously improved from the last year and would upgrade their only really glaring need at RB. Spiller would be a great addition to that offense and provide Palmer with another weapon to play with.

16. Dallas Cowboys: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State:

The Cowboys drafting here ultimately means they missed the playoffs and Wade Philips was probably fired. Whoever the coach is highly influenced by Jerry Jones and will probably draft a Big 12 player and a wide receiver. Well, Dez Bryant fills both those requirements. He would be a good fit and gives Romo another target.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars: Travis Lewis, LB, Oklahoma:

Travis Lewis would be a great addition to the Jags because he would fill a big need at linebacker. He is probably the best linebacker in this draft, and I think the Jags would be happy to have him at this juncture in the draft.

18. New Orleans Saints: Sean Witherspoon, LB, Missouri:

If Lewis is available one spot ahead of them, I’d expect the Saints to trade up and take Lewis. But since I don’t mock trades, I see the Saints taking the best available outside LB. Saints will need help on the defensive side of the ball until it can somehow hold the leads that Drew Brees gives them.

19. Denver Broncos (via Chicago): Sergio Kindle, DE/OLB, Texas

Kindle provides the defensive pass rush the Broncos will need, especially if they are going to implement a rookie quarterback. They will more than likely struggle getting to the passer and Kindle could definitely help with that.

20. Minnesota Vikings: Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss:

The Vikings get the player they wanted, who Snead could end up being the best QB in this draft. The Vikings need the quarterback and would be a perfect fit as he could be protected by Adrian Peterson. Also, new coaches usually mean new quarterbacks.

21. Arizona Cardinals: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma:

Another addition to make the Cardinals offense that more lethal. Gresham could be a great target for whoever plays quarterback for the Cardinals. Gresham is a good blocker and a great receiver. Kurt Warner will love him and Fitzgerald will love playing next to him for years to come.

22. San Fransisco 49ers: Tim TeBow, QB, Florida

I don’t know what Singletary would do with TeBow, but he fits all of his qualities: tough, talented, and motivated. I don’t think Singletary needs any other reason to draft him. He wants winners. That is all Tebow has done in 4 years at Florida.

23. Ciron Black, OT, LSU:

If Black is here when Seattle picks, they will be very ecstatic. This team would get infinetly better with starting at LT. The Seahawks would have 1 more year of Hasselbeck before the Sam Bradford era would take over. Having Ciron Black ready and established is just one more positive thing for this franchise.

24. Houston Texans: Jonathon Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech:

Adding Dwyer to this team would make Slaton a lot more effective. Making Slaton more effective takes pressure off of Schaub and helps keep the Texans defense off the field and rested.

25. Atlanta Falcons: Kristofer O’Dowd, C,  USC:

O’Dowd would help anchor the offensive line of the Falcons and make the offense even more deadly. Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood would run wild while passing lanes would up for Matt Ryan.

26. Indianapolis Colts: Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida

Spikes would replace Gary Brackett and be there for years. He would probably become the face of the defense under that Cover 2 scheme and I really think the Colts are getting steal at this point.

27. Philadelphia Eagles: Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss

Hardy’s potential will get him drafted in the first round, no matter how bad he plays this year in college. He has great potential and Andy Reid loves all lineman, even defensive ones.

28. Baltimore Ravens: Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama

Arenas gives the Ravens a kick returner and a CB, both which the Ravens could use. Arenas could give great field position and then the Ravens defense could control it from there.

29. San Diego Chargers: Charles Brown, OT,  USC:

The Chargers need a right tackle and even though Brown plays left, he could make the transition to RT and move around the line as needed. Brown could help that running game and help protect Philip Rivers.

30. NY Giants: Major Wright, S, Florida

Putting Major Wright at safety solves a bunch of secondary problems for the Giants because they can keep their CBs at their respective positions. Major Wright provides leadership for the Giants defense and he has that certain swagger that the Giants’ defense has.

31. New England Patriots: Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama

Patriots fill another need through the draft and all of a sudden their “old” defense is one of the youngest, fiercest defenses in the league. McClain is a physical specimen and will torment anybody in his way.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers:

A huge guy like Anthony Davis would be great for Pittsburgh who likes to run the ball. If they can get a solid OT at the end of round 1 and provide depth to the rest of their team like they usually do, there is no reason the Steelers can’t be Super Bowl Contenders every year.

Taylor Mays is an enticing player, although I don’t see the Raider going backwards. They picked 7th in this years draft and with an improved O Line and JRuss having a full year under his belt, the Raiders may be picking between 10 – 15 this year, unless they trade up. Also if the Raiders don’t succeed at the FS spot with either Tyvon Branch or Michael Mitchell, I doubt they address the Safety a third year strait. Remember the best CB in the league was’nt the best his first 3 years. I would imagine the Raiders would address DT since they shyed away from it two years in a row. I also expect improvement in Detroit. Two years in a row? They did address the O Line they got the OT from Washington like yesterday. KC is an interesting team, I feel will be more disciplined under this new coaching regime. They are young and Cassell could be a one year wonder, Tyler Thigpin actually played better down the stretch. Losing T Gonzalez was a big hit to the passing game and they only have D Bowe that is a threat.

I disagree Raider Ref, Al Davis will take the most exciting player, i think we can both agree this pick will be defense and i agree that DT is a definite need, but if you notice Al Davies’ draft history he loves taking DB’s and hates taking D lineman, the last guy he did ran a 4.8 at 320, Mays is the pick at this juncture

Sergio Kindle is too small to play LOLB. Unless Elvis Dumervil spontaneously combusts, the chances of us drafting Kindle are little to none.

Mind you, with McDaniels at the helm, it’s a whole different story.

We are going away from press to zone b/c of the 3-4.
We are just playing some press until Woodson and Harris are gone. We will look for zone COrners in the future.

I’d only change a few things….I’d almost switch Chicago and Seattle…and I’m just not that high on the Chargers this year.

    Cutler for President! :)

These are based on my power rankings. I could see the Seahawks with a better record because the NFC West is the 2nd worst defense in the league.
